Carmike Cinemas’ Alternative Programming Division today announced the July 25 wide release of Batman: The Killing Joke, in association with Fathom Events and Warner Bros. The animated feature, based on the acclaimed DC Comics graphic novel, takes viewers on an exciting journey into the dark psyche of the Clown Prince of Crime and follows his humble beginnings as a struggling comic to the fateful encounter with the Dark Knight that changed everything. The feature includes Mark Hamill as the voice of the Joker and Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman, a return to the hit ’90s cartoon Batman: The Animated Series.
Now escaped from Arkham Asylum, The Joker sets out to prove that one bad day can make anyone just as insane as he is. With his sights set on Commissioner Gordon, can Batman stop The Joker’s demented plan in time?
Including a gripping prologue spotlighting Barbara Gordon, who is Batgirl, and featuring the return of Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamill as The Joker and Tara Strong as Batgirl, witness the birth of a super villain, the fortitude of a hero and the punchline that will ultimately leave audiences speechless.
“Batman is one of the most revered comic book and cinematic heroes,” stated Bud Mayo, President of the Carmike Cinemas Alternative Programming & Distribution Division. “We are delighted that Warner Bros. has agreed to allot Carmike a large number of screens on which to showcase this unique example of alternate programming at its best, for the benefit of our valued guests across the US.”
The Carmike presentation will also included bonuses such as a special introduction from Mark Hamill, a never-before-seen documentary about how Hamill was cast in this project and what the role means to him as both an actor and a fan, and will conclude with a special behind-the-scenes look at how the Joker’s memorable, yet disturbing song and dance number was recreated for this feature.
Local presentation times are 7:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. but some theaters will only play one show that evening so please check local times/listings for your nearest Carmike location. There are Carmike Cinemas in Warrensburg, Mo. and Manhattan, Kan.
